Describe a garment in words or show Ourlette a picture. The AI works out what you want, and a drafting engine draws every piece to your measurements, with seam allowances, a 3D preview and a sewing guide.
Drafting the exact piece from a picture or words is on Maker and Atelier; for free, Ourlette suggests the closest of 36 tested models. Your pictures stay private and are only used to make your pattern.
Type what you want to sew, for example a gathered midi skirt with pockets in cotton poplin, or upload a photo, a screenshot or a link to a public Pinterest pin or Instagram post. The AI understands requests in any language.
When your request matches a catalogue garment, the AI sets its options: length, neckline, sleeves, fullness, closure and pockets. Otherwise, on the Maker and Atelier plans, Ourlette's AI pattern maker drafts a new pattern piece by piece; on the Free plan, Ourlette suggests the closest tested models and Community patterns to start from. Every piece is drawn with your measurements and the right ease, and you see the pattern and a 3D preview.
Enter your measurements or pick a standard size. Change options by hand, which is free and instant, or ask for changes in words. Check the result in 3D on a mannequin built from your numbers before you print anything. Changes by hand never count toward your AI allowance.
Print the pattern at true scale on A4, US Letter, A3, Tabloid, A0 or 36 × 48 in, or as a projector file, and check the test square. Follow the guide step by step. Printing needs a Maker or Atelier plan.
Results from Ourlette's own pipeline, not retouched: what was asked, the piece on the dress form and the pattern pieces drafted for it.

Drafted for a standard size (EU 38, or the nearest children's size). Yours is drafted to your own measurements. The photos are example pictures made for this page; the patterns are what Ourlette drafted from them, unedited.
An AI sewing pattern generator turns a description or a picture of a garment into a sewing pattern you can print and sew. Ourlette splits the job in two.
The AI understands your request: the garment type, its silhouette, its details and the fabric. A drafting engine then draws the pattern from flat-pattern blocks with your measurements, the way a pattern maker drafts by hand. The result is a set of pieces at true scale, with seam allowances, notches and grainlines, and a sewing guide written for that pattern.

Image and language models are good at recognizing a garment and describing it, but a pattern is geometry: a sleeve cap has to match its armhole, a waistband has to match the skirt. So in Ourlette, the AI does not sketch the pattern. For a catalogue garment, it sets the options and the engine drafts it. For anything else, on the Maker and Atelier plans, Ourlette's AI pattern maker builds each piece on the engine's bodice, sleeve, skirt and trouser blocks, and every seam is checked on three sizes. Same inputs, same pattern, every time.
Read how Ourlette drafts a pattern, or how this compares with asking ChatGPT for a pattern.
Once a pattern exists, you can change it in two ways. Ask in words, such as "make it midi with in-seam pockets" or "puff sleeves instead", and the AI changes the options for you. A small change like these adjusts the options and counts as one AI message, and the free plan allows 2 per pattern; a big change, such as adding a new part, redraws the pieces, is not also an AI message, and comes with Maker (5 a month) or Atelier (one AI credit each).
Or change any option or measurement by hand: length, neckline, sleeves, fit, flare. Changes by hand use no AI, redraw the pattern instantly and are free and unlimited on every plan, including the free one.

Each pattern comes with its own step-by-step guide: the steps of that garment with its options, the pieces list with cut counts, the notions, fabric quantities for 110, 140 and 150 cm (45, 55 and 60 in) wide fabric, and cutting layouts.
When a step is unclear, ask the guide, for example "what does staystitch mean?" or "my fabric is slippery, any tips for this step?". An AI answers about your pattern. See how to ask the guide.
Ourlette has a catalogue of 36 garment types with tested drafting, covering skirts, dresses, tops and shirts, sweatshirts, trousers, jeans and shorts, jackets and coats, bags, a hat and home pieces, each with its own options. It uses one whenever it matches your request, in about a minute.
Anything else, such as a jumpsuit, a blazer with notched lapels, a corset, swimwear, lingerie, a backpack or a toy, is drafted piece by piece by its AI pattern maker on the Maker plan (3 a month) and the Atelier plan, in 4 to 8 minutes, then reviewed by a second one; on the Free plan, Ourlette suggests the closest tested models and Community patterns to start from instead. These designs are not tested on real bodies yet: sew a toile first, and expect structured tailoring, underwired bras and boned corsetry to need adjusting by hand. Browse the pattern library to see the catalogue and its options.
The free plan suggests the closest tested models and Community patterns to start from, with 2 small AI changes per pattern, 6 AI messages a month, unlimited changes by hand, the 3D preview and the sewing guide on screen. Six easy models, such as the tote bag and the scrunchie, print for free.
Maker ($7.99 a month or $59 a year) adds printing on every paper size, the PDF sewing guide, 3 exact designs a month drafted from what you describe or show, then the closest catalogue garment (30 AI patterns a month in all), 100 AI messages (small changes and questions) and 5 big changes a month. Atelier ($19.99 a month or $149 a year) drafts more: 12 AI credits a month, each one a new design drafted from scratch or a big change, and unlimited AI patterns and AI messages within fair use. Details are on the pricing page.

A general chatbot can explain techniques and describe how a garment is made, but it does not draft pattern pieces to scale from your measurements. Ourlette's AI understands the request and its drafting engine draws the pieces, so they print at true scale and fit together. Ourlette also works inside ChatGPT: see Ourlette for ChatGPT.
Almost anything you can sew. The 36 catalogue garment types are tested and used whenever they match; anything else, including jumpsuits, blazers with notched lapels, corsets, swimwear and lingerie, is drafted by the AI pattern maker on the Maker and Atelier plans (on the Free plan, Ourlette suggests the closest tested models and Community patterns to start from). Those new designs are untested, so make a toile first; structured tailoring, underwired bras and boned corsetry may need adjusting by hand. Ourlette does not make knitting patterns.
Ourlette's patterns are drafted on flat-pattern blocks with your measurements and ease, not sketched by the AI. Catalogue garments are tested; new designs from the AI pattern maker (on the Maker and Atelier plans) are checked seam by seam on three sizes but not yet sewn on real bodies, so make a toile first. All include seam allowances (1.5 cm or 5/8 in on wovens, 1 cm or 3/8 in on knits by default) and print at true scale, with a 5 cm and 2 in test square to check.
The site and the app are in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch, and the AI understands requests in any language.
